Phoenix, son of Amyntor.

At the bequest of his mother, Phoenix slept with his father's concubine. When his father discovered this he was furious and cursed Phoenix, trying there to kill him. Phoenix tried to flee the palace, but was cornered in his room where he was besieged for several days. Finally Phoenix cut his way out of the palace, killing clansmen along the way.

Phoenix fled to Phthia, where Peleus cared for him as a son, gave him great power and wealth, even setting him over the Dolopians. When Achilles was born, it was Phoenix who held him when he was fed.

At Patrocolus' funeral, Phoenix was a referee.

Achilles calls him "Friend and Father."
